if i "download" adobe flash player 10.2.152.26 from the adobe website rather than "update" from fp 10, will the old fp hang out in my computer taking up valuable space?  also how would i temporarily disable my norton antivirus?  i cannot find the adobe flash player 10 on my program list or in "search" from the "start", but i can see it on my "remove programs" list.  what is the difference between plugin and activex?  thanks for help -- i'm not very techie

thanks for responses, but i'm still clueless about the first part of my question: "if i "download" adobe flash player 10.2.152.26 from the adobe website  rather than "update" from fp 10, will the old fp hang out in my computer  taking up valuable space?"

Hi internet dreamer, sorry for the off topic on Norton. As far as your particular question, a new Flash Player is not "added" to the old Flash Player you currently have Installed. That's why I gave you the instructions which include to Uninstall first and then follow thru with an Install of the new version.

With Flash Player, it is out with the old and in with the new:-) Once you have the new Flash Player Installed, then you can re-enable Norton.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

ActiveX is for Internet Explorer, the plugin is for all other browsers like Firefox etc.

you do not have to turn off your Norton protection. I have Norton Internet Security 2010 and do not have to

turn it off to get flash player

In fact if you have NIS 2010 the download insight will check the file to be downloaded and give it an ok if it is clean

also I use Vista on a limited user account and I can download it while on that account. I just need to use my admin password when prompted.

I know that this works as when I go to the chack if you have flash page, it shows that I do and flash works

Hi, This is how to Disable Norton:

Right Click and Open Norton. Turn off Smart Firewall and Auto Protect

Under Miscellaneous Settings, Disable Norton Product Tamper Protection

    1- Open IE 8. Goto Tools -> Manage Add-ons.

    2- Disable the following:

    -Norton Toolbar

    -Symantec NCO BHO

    -Symantec Intrusion Prevention (IPS)

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for FF or other non-IE browser- use the EXE Installer for plugin based (from the same site)

Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.

Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)

If you use Norton or any other Anti-Virus, you would want to disable them also as they can block the Shockwave Flash Object.

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

Now check and make sure Norton & any other AV are still Disabled.

Run the Installer for IE, Run the Installer for FF and when finished, Reboot.

Then go to this test site and test each browser:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.
