Question

what are skins for?

I can't get my flash SWF file to play with controls such as Play / Pause / Maximize etc.  From what I read on the net, it seems that "skins" might be a solution.  They might provide both custom colors and controls.   Is this true?  If so, do I need to purchase 'flash' to make them?

Thanks,

Gid

This is a very confusing post - I have no idea what you are trying to achieve....

First "my flash SWF file" - what is it; did you make it?  Is it a standalone file, or embedded in a web page?

What exactly are you trying to do?

I have an AVI file that plays an interview with an famous individual.  I want to put that on a web page.  So I used a product called IMTOO Universal Video Converter to convert it to SWF.  I could have converted it to FLV, but since I don't know the difference between FLV and SWF, I chose SWF (there were also instructions on the web on how to embed SWF into a web page).  So I produced the SWF and then embedded it.  The problem is, when the video appeared and played, there were no buttons to control it.  There was no 'play' button, no 'pause' button, no 'progress bar', and no maximize button.   Any youtube video has all of these.

Nobody seems to be able to tell me why these controls are missing.

So I browsed through the web, and found something called "skins" that might be the answer.  But I don't really know what they are for.  They seem to take an ordinary flash video and customize the colors of the frame, and more importantly, they seem to customize controls for it.  So I'm thinking that maybe a video without controls can be made to have controls by producing a skin.

Is this a good approach?  If so, how would I produce a skin?
