What is it with flash player all the time!!!

I swear every single time I do an upgrades, which you're prompted to do until you actually do it so you have to but every time I do an update. something goes wrong.  This is like the fifth update for me and the fifth time something went wrong!  My sound works on my computer because I tested my speakers. played a CD, etc.  However, videos in youtube and facebook will not work!  If I didnt pay for it, I would do away with adobe all together however, I do like the full version of Adobe Reader (so far at least).   But this is just ridiculous...anyone having the same issue or a fix?  The videos play just not the sound.   grrrr
