Question

Why doesn't Flash Player Auto-Update?

For past week couldn't receive RTE Irish Television feed without continuous stopping and starting.  No problem before that.

Colleague suggested update Flash Player.  That fixed problem.

Checked settings and player configured to Auto-Update.

Why does it not do that?

Thank you.

Were you opted into Background Updates (Allow Adobe to install updates, recommended), or were you opted into Notification Updates (Notify me when an update is available)?  The most recent release was on Tuesday 13-Dec.  If the former, then Flash Player should definitely have updated within 24-hrs of the release.  If the latter, Flash Player Update Notification mechanism checks for an update once every 7 days, and it's possible the update check just hadn't occurred yet.

I'd like to get some additional information to troubleshoot further.  Please do the following:

Screenshot of the Flash Player Settings Manager 'Updates' tab

  1. Launch Control Panel
  2. Navigate to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items
    1. View option = View by Small Icons
  3. Select the Flash Player item
  4. Go to the Updates tab
  5. Post a screenshot of the Updates tab.  See How do I attach a screenshot?

FlashInstall.log files:

  1. Upload the FlashInstall.log file saved at C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash directory to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document
    1. If this is a 64-bit OS there is another FlashInstall.log file saved at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash.  Both files are required from a 64-bit OS.
  2. Post the link to the uploaded file(s) in your reply
