Why has installing Flash Player 11 Beta 64-bit affected downloading of “pdf” documents??

I recently installed Flash Player 11 Beta 64-bit, and Active-x for Windows 64-bit – for Internet Explorer only. The downloading of xxx.pdf documents was immediately affected. The downloading was “garbage” into a Microsoft Word document with the suffix .pdf. Help!

Op System: Vista; Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 64 bit version
