Win 7 - Active X Reinstallation issue - 1722 Error

Hi Team,

We are doing UAT testing for Flash Active X 25.0.0.127 and all previous versions are upgrading with this version.

Now, we uninstalled the Active X 25.0.0.127 and tried to install 24.0.0.221. But we are not able install old versions of Flash Active X on Win7. Moreover, we tried  with other older versions but issue is same (1722).

To resolve this issue we use Flash Uninstaller, after running the Flash uninstaller onlt we are able to install older version.

Our main concern is, If we want to roll back latest version from user environment then how we will rollout N-1 version in production without using Flash uninstaller.

Please respond on this concern.

Error 1722 is a generic Windows Installer error.  I would need to review the Flash Player log files to view the actual Flash Player install error, however, the behaviour you are describing sounds to be expected behaviour, and is due to your downgrade attempt.  Due to security reasons, Flash Player prevents downgrade attempts without first uninstalling the newer version, using the standalone unintaller.  This serves as an alert to users who may be downgrading unknowingly, or unintentionally.

So, for your UAT testing, if you need to rollback to a previous version you need first need to uninstall, using the standalone uninstaller, and then install the previous version

I'm more than happy to review the Flash log files to confirm this presumption.  The FlashInstall.log file is saved at C:\WIndows\System32\Macromed\Flash.  If this is a 64-bit OS, there's another FlashInstall.log file saved at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash.  Both files are required from a 64-bit OS.  On a 64-bit OS, please do the following:

    • Make a copy of the file in the system32 directory and rename it FlashInstall32.log
    • Make a copy of the file in the syswow64 directory and rename it FlashInstall64.log

Upload the file(s) to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document and post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.
