Adobe tells me I installed Flash Player successfully but when I try to run a program that uses Flash Player it tells me I need to install it. Windows problem solver tells me I'm missing flash.ocx. How do I get it?

What program uses flash.ocx?  That is a very old Flash Player version.

What I would do if I needed flash.ocx is to copy the latest Flash32_11_6_602_180.ocx, then rename the copied file to flash.ocx

You would find that file

  • on 32-bit Windows in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
  • on 64-bit Windows in C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\Macromed\Flash

First of all I want to thank you very much for your response to my

problem. But, as a result I'm now wondering if my real problem might

be the absence of the file you suggested I copy and rename. The only 2

files that came even close to the name you indicated were

FlashPlayerPlugin_11_6_602_180 and FlashUtil32_11_6_602_180_Plugin,

both listed as applications. Given that there was no *.ocx file I was

thinking maybe the Windows solution utility may have given an outdated

name and may be referencing the file you named. However, I have

deleted and downloaded the Flash Player program numerous times and I

can't help but wonder why no *.ocx file appears after Adobe tells me

the installation was successful.

Do you have any more suggestions I might try to correct this? Any

assistance would be appreciated.
