Youtube blackscreen with high resolution (IE10 - W8) 64-bit

Hi,

I have suddenly started having an issue, where if I select a video to be showing as 720p, or above, the content stops playing/downloading and displays a blackscreen only. The only way around this is to disable the Shockwave Flash Object ActiveX in 'Manage add-ons'. I can then view the videos (in HTML5?) and select F11 to view in fullscreen.

It has just been patch day at Microsoft, so whether that is something to do with it I'm not sure, but the latest KB package is showing as newer than the one the Adobe help page links to, which is now just under 1 month old. The old one being KB2880289, and the latest being KB2889543.

Any ideas. I have cleared all my caches etc using CCleaner.

Ok,

so I realised that I could watch a Youtube video embedded into another website, select 720p and it would behave as normal. But when I tried this on Youtube itself, this problem would arise.

The solution was pretty simple: I had CCleaner set to keep certain cookies, of which Youtube was one, I deleted the 2 cookies for Youtube and hey presto, it now works.

Thanks again for the reply Chris.

Can you verify which version of Flash Player you have installed?

Flash Player Version

Also, does this only occur with YouTube or are other video sites effected?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply.

My Flash version is 11.9.900.117 and I am using IE10 version 10.0.9200.16721 Update versions 10.0.10 (KB2879019).

I only really use Youtube, but I have checked Dailymotion, Metacafe (which has a similar quality changing mechanism) and Myspace. I think these all use Flash, and there doesn't seem to be any problems using them.

I managed to get a Youtube video to play in 720p, but I had to changed the quality to 720, it then blackscreened and showed the quality as 240; I changed it again to 720 and selected another video, then went back to the original video and it played from the beginning at 720?? It does seem to be a bug linked with the new updates and the quality changing mechanism in Youtube..

This happens if I'm logged into Youtube or not.
