Hi

In InDesign there is an Open Type typographical property called  Contextual Alternates. Is this (or something comparable) available in TLF?

There is one that is turned on automatically in the Player depending on the language that is used. But it is language dependent, so you can't use contextual alternates with a script font in English -- although this would be very useful.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, but I don't understand "There is one" - could you elaborate?

Are Contextual Alternates supperted when when English is set? And also when other languages are set? Set in the OS, browser, player, or Flex/Flash app?

By "script font" you mean this type of font?

So Contextual Alternates are not supported when English is used?

In general: Are Contextual Alternates supported for embedded fonts?

There are no Contextual Alternates with English. It will use them Arabic and other languages that require them. Optimally there would be an ability to turn on Contextual Alternates in languages where their use is optional for fonts that would benefit from it, such us shown in the Linotype link you posted. Flash Player does not have that feature now.
