Highlighter for the text

Hello

How can i highlight the portion of text.I mean a permanent highlighter.

I was looking for the background colour property but i got this property for the span and paragraph elements.I want to apply the highlighter on the selected text that may be from two different paragraphs.

You can apply a background color to both paragraphs. Would that solve your problem?
