I'm using code of the form: IEditManager(_textFlow.interactionManager).applyLink(" http://www.cnn.com"); However, in my underlying markup, I'd like to have something like this: <flow:a href=" http://www.cnn.com" id="myID">My Link here</flow:a> Since in the latest releases of Gumbo SDK every FlowElement have IDs, we're using these IDs to track LinkElements which are later used to fire specific events based on their IDs, when the TextFlow is in non-editable mode. (we ignore the actual href). The applyLink method of course takes only a url as string, but is there a way to add a general LinkElement using the IEditManager where we could specify the LinkElement ID ? We don't want to have to directly add LinkElements to the TextFlow because our current application uses an IEditManager.

In earlier versions of Flash, it was possible to link to a local function. In the htmlText of a text area, you could link to event:functionName instead of a website. Is that possible in the text layout framework? If so, can someone post an example?

Is there a way to create a new FlowElement (such as a DivElement) from markup text without having to go through the TextFilter.importToFlow function? What I am trying to accomplish is this: I have a TextFlow already built. I receive some text that I want to inject into the TextFlow as a new element somewhere in the existing TextFlow. The method that I am using to accomplish this is, to create a second TextFlow from the markup via the importToFlow Function. Then I get the element from the second flow and make a deepCopy of it into a new "unowned" element. Lastly, I use this new "unowned" element in my main code by adding it as a child of the original TextFlow. My function that does this is attached. Thanks. Tim

I'm finding that CharacterFormat (soon ITextLayoutFormat) fails to take a value of "regular" for fontStyle. This code illustrates the case (attached) On the first run the traces are as expected, setting the text to italic: "existing fontWeight: normal" "existing fontStyle: regular" "new fontStyle: italic" "should be: italic" But when I click my italic button again it fails to reset the text to regular because the "italic" CharacterFormat will not take a value of FontStyle.REGULAR when using a conditional assignment (ternary or if-else), the final trace shows the outcome of this conditional assignment, it just never actually gets assigned (it remains null). So the traces for when the text is already italic are: "existing fontWeight: normal" "existing fontStyle: italic" "new fontStyle: null" "should be: regular" I'm not using bold here so there's nothing running through the BOLD_ITALIC stuff.

I have loaded fonts.swf on startup. I don't use TextLayout Embeded fonts feature. Then i have loaded some xml and assign xml to TextLayout. How I can use loaded font for display?

I have a pretty complex scenario but I should be able to see what's going wrong here... the question is on the very last line. I'm building an application where inside an editor users can lay out and edit text, (using things like resize handles and the EditManager for position and selection/typing). The app has a strict MVC implementation and I'm utilising a global undo system via commands so every edit to the text runs through a central mechanism instead of using the UndoManager directly. I'm also generating thumbnail images of this "container" after a certain time period after user activity, in effect producing 2 views of the same data. The problem this causes is that each TextFlow object is now being used by two Containers (I'm using a "TextElementRenderer" as a container class, which takes a TextFlow object and using the TLF draws the text). So it only actually renders in the last one assigned (in my case the thumbnail which lives inside a TileList that lets you switch between ed

Using at least the last few gumbo builds, if you have hyperlinks in the paragraphs that scroll out of view in a FxTextArea they don't work when scrolled to. I don't know if this is a TLF problem or a Gumbo problem or a not yet implemented deal. When we embed a font in Flex, we can define which style of the font we want to have. So if we set the property "fontWeight" to "bold", the font manager (or the compiler?) will look for the bold font from the file, embed it and use it with text defined as bold. Sometimes the different styles of one font are defined in different files, and often they are not defined correctly in the font file. For example, you can have a font file myfont-bold.ttf, which defines the bold style of myfont, but in the ttf file, the font is not defined as bold, but as normal (don't know if this is clear). In this case, if I set the fontWeight property to bold while embedding the font, the compiler will give an error message, which is right. Now my question is: is there a way to tell the compiler to embed the 'normal' font from a file, but use it for bold text? Generally it would be nice if we could define which font style to take from a font file and for which text style to use it. Does it make sense?

Hello, I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere online. In the old Google discussion group, someone asked the question regarding the problem I'm having. But no solution was ever posted. I'm testing a method to make sure that a bad assertion shows up on the failed test list. However, when I run my TestRunner, I get an ActionScript pop-up instead of a failed test case. I'm just not sure how to suppress that error pop-up and show that a test case has failed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, In cases when lines are visible but have their validity as "invalid", we can't get the atom data. Is there anyway to force the lines' validity to be "valid" so that atom data can be extracted from these? Regards, Ahmed

I've got a simple quiz that needs to be ported from FTE to the TextLayout Framework. To get something approximating TextField.autoSize, I use an ample initial value for height, and then use setCompositionSize to crop the DisplayObjectContainer back down to it's correct size. I have a bunch of Choices which are all parented to a Sprite. I measure that Sprite to put the results under the Choices. In the Choice class, everything looks normal. If I trace the boundaries with the drawing API, they are where I expect them. The problem is the parent Sprite that contains all the Choice instances. Its height hasn't been updated to reflect setCompositionSize. I'm not able to import StandardFlowComposer in FlexBuilder. I see the SWC contains it but it mentions the "tlf_internal" namespace. Is this class limited by to that namespace visibility or public? For now I'm casting flowComposer as FlowComposerBase but ideally I'd like to have access to StandardFlowComposer to extend it perhaps?

I have a bunch of containers created, and if I programmatically make a slight change to one span in the text flow, I do not want to go through the process of updating all of the containers to see that change. I figured flowComposer.updateContainter(modifiedContainerIndex) would work, however, after I call this method, the containers that come after the supplied index do not display properly. After reviewing the docs, I found that this is not unexpected behaviour.... "Does just enough composition and update to ensure that the display for the specified container is current. If you have a chain of twenty containers and specify the tenth container, updateContainer() ensures that containers 1 - 10 are properly composed and displayed. Composition stops at that point and you cannot assume that the following containers are correctly displayed." I have an application that for all intents and purposes can be considered similar to the Pagination example. I do not want the end user to be able to edit the document however I need to do certain operations when the end user interacts with the text, such as perform some actionscript when they click a LinkElement, or create a hover box over certain ParagraphElements and DivElements on mouseover. Therefore I have created a superclass to SelectionManager to handle the text events and the mouse events. The side effect of this design is that when the end user hovers the mouse over any old text, the mouse pointer is almost always an i-beam insertion point, giving the impression that editing is available, even though they cannot in fact edit. If I find an alternate way of doing the events and eliminate the SelectionManager altogether, then I dont get the handy ability for my users to select a section of text and copy it to the clipboard. Hi, I have an issue with addAsync that handler function is not invoked when event fired. It does not work as I use addAsync in deeper function calls as below code. The player does fire MediaComplete event but correct handler never get called. Anyone know has ideas of what the problem is? Hi, When adding support for keyboard shortcut for Ctrl + B, its behavior is different on firefox vs Internet Explorer. Ctrl + B works fine in firefox but doesn't work in Internet Explorer as it opens "organize Favourites" Is there any way to add support for Ctrl + B, in a TLF based editor for Internet Explorer. Hi, I've integrated the new Gumbo build 4.0.0.4904 (with TLF build 357), but there seems to be issue with images. Problem is that of image disappearance. After adding image, type some text and then click mouse close to image, results sometimes in image disappearance and then continuing with typing, images get appeared again. Can you verify?
