Removal of the Singleton design pattern has many benefits for Cairngorm with regards to Unit Testing and Modules. So far the list of Singletons used in Cairngorm are ServiceLocator, ModelLocator and CairngormEventDispacther. I've looked into solutions to replace all Singletons with Dependency Injection. So far here are a summary my conclusions. The ModelLocator. Singleton Purpose: A single point of reference for View or Commands to reference the Model. Solution: 1, Pass the model object via the event to the command. 2, Pass the model object to the view via reference (DI). All model instances are instantiated in a factory with all required dependencies passed via reference through the model object's constructor. The Model hierarchy represents the Display Object structure, therefore each presentation model should contain a reference to the next view's presentation model. ServiceLocator: Singleton Purpose: A single point of reference for Delegates to reference Services. Solution:

Hello, I would like to create a kind of circle-list control. To do it, I have created a class that extend the List class. I overidde the method "createRowsAndColumns", call the parent method to take profit of the List behavior. Then, I iterate on the items of the list, change the positions and unvalidate the list (unvalidateList) to draw again the items. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I don't have compilation errors and the window application keep blank. Could you help me? I don't know the best practice to create such custom components. Can you give me some advices? I am a newbe on flex programming and no more about WPF (Window Presentation Foundation) Trevor

Hello Team,<br /><br />Can you please help in the following issue:<br />I am trying to preserve white space(leading and trailing L&T) as is on the User Interface. This is my first time to get in touch with flex at all. So I am a blind rookie, hungry fro some action. I had two problems sourcing the setup.sh 1. The source.sh was unable to find the flash player gz. # 2. I dont have the default ant and jdk on my ubuntu. and it always points to the defaults where as I even set them in the environment for this session. The error trace is at the bottom of the post. Solution to first problem: I gave a path for the player. Does this mean the path is incorrect in the current version Solution to second problem: I am checking if the HOME paths are missing only then use the defaults otherwise dont. Changes are as follows: Currently I have solved like this, Applications compile and run fine. It could be wrong and thats why I am posting here. ============================================= # This was tested on Ubuntu elif [ $OS = "Linux" ]; then #If ANT_HOME is not there then take the default one. if [ ! -d "$ANT_HOME" ]; then ANT_HOME=/usr/share/ant fi

Hello everyone, I'm looking for any white paper or documentation about the asc module / compiler module, helping me to understand easily the java code. In fact, i have already import the code in eclipse, and generate the javadoc, but it could be helpful for me to have white papers about the as parser / compiler, in order to have a deeper understanding. thanks
Hi, when I try to profile Gumbo applications from Flex Builder I get a bunch of exceptions about invalid overrides and not found components and the application doesn't run. Is profiling for Gumbo not yet supported or am I missing something? Haykel Ben Jemia Allmas Web & RIA Development http://www.allmas-tn.com
Hi, How do you go about testing adding and removing MovieClips, Sprites, and/or UIComponents in FlexUnit for Flex projects? I would like to test, for example, that the right movieclip is on the top of the stack and whatnot. Thanks so much for your help! Lance

Hi, * SDK-16371 : Gordon said that the TCAL team is not considering this as a bug. Hi guys, I'm wondering if there's a reason the XMLDecoder doesn't traverse back up the schema stack when trying to find a type definition? I can't think of any, but I'd like to get some feedback before filing a bug and submitting a patch? It seems to be the source of a couple of bugs, one of which is keeping one of our teams on Flex 2. Either Flex 2 didn't have a schema stack, or it did traverse it when looking for definitions, but AFAIK the source to Flex 2's mx.rpc.* was never included in the SDK, correct? Any chance I can get a copy of Flex 2's mx.rpc.xml.* tree to compare against, or if I can get my question passed along in a hallway conversation @ Adobe or something? Is there an API to force an assert? Specifically: assert("Something went wrong"); I am doing some async tests, and in one case I am testing if an IO_ErrorEvent occurs. If it does, I want to do an assert: private function onConnectError(e:IOErrorEvent):void { assert("Connection Failed : " + e.text, false); } Right now I have to do: private function onConnectError(e:IOErrorEvent):void { assertTrue("Connection Failed : " + e.text, false); } Looking through the APIs i did not see an assert() api. I would be happy to add one myself. mike chambers
Anyone know of a tool or script that will autogenerate test classes from existing classes? i.e. creating a test class, and test Methods for existing public fields and methods? mike
