Text Layout Framework Open Source?

Are there any plans to make Text Layout Framwork open source?

It would be great to be able to get the source code as keep running into problems while trying to extend it.  There seem to be lots of places where there are final classes and issues that prevent extensions.

Any thoughts on why it is not open source?
