is there any material on the limitations of the text rendering compared to how InDesign does it? I am really interested in that!

Not that I know of. InDesign has a lot of features that are not part of TLF. There were some blogs on Adobe's blog server about the typographical aspects of FTE and TLF, but there's been no across the board feature comparison. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.
