Which is the latest recommended build?

Hello,

I would like to know which TLF build the TLF team would recommend?

I realize that the framework is still not in a production quality but right now it is confusing which build to use.

- The one from November 2008

- The one included in the last major milestone in Flex 4

- The latest night build

- Something else

For example could it be assumed that the last Flex 4 major milestone is expected to be a bit more stable since it belongs to a milestone release?

I am not sure because up until recently TLF and Flex 4 builds were not synchronized completely.

Any information (I realize it is not an official statement) could help and potentially save time for people eager to develop with TLF.

Thank you!

Our apologies for the confusion! This is part of the reason why we are no longer providing weekly builds on the labs page. TLF and Flex builds are now synchronized. Here's my recommendation:

-> If you are using Flex as well as TLF - Use the last major Flex 4 milestone. You'll want the stability of a Flex milestone release for your other components.

-> If you are using TLF, but *not* using Flex - Grab the textlayout.swc out of the latest nightly build of Flex 4. This will help you keep up with the latest in TLF updates

I do not recommend using the November 2008 build unless you are using the Component for Flash Professional CS4.

Thanks for the info!

My case is: I use Flex 3 (not Flex 4) and I use TLF therefore I assume the better approach for me is to use the latest night build of TLF (out of Flex 4).

BTW I would like to congratulate you guys (not only the TLF team but also all other Flex teams) for the openness and transparency you maintain while developing it. At this scale such behavior takes a lot. Keep up the excellent job.

Not an official response (I'm not on the team, but I use TLF), but I wouldn't go back to the November 2008 version. There have been a lot of API changes since then that you would have to figure out when you update it later.
