Access rights

Hi,
I am trying to open an .icma-File, which was assigned to me. But it will not open. I get this error-message:
"The document cannot be opened. You may not have the appropriate access rights, or the file is already open. If multiple users have access, close the file and enable write protection for the file in Windows Explorer."

I am the only one having the file open. Opening it with write protection also does not work. Do you have any ideas what causes this problem and how to fix it?
Thanks, Veronika

I would advise against the use of assignments. Instead, open the INDD file directly in InCopy and do your editing there.

Thanks for your advice! I can open the INDD file directly in InCopy but can't do any editing.

Then the InDesign user has not exported the stories to InCopy or you haven't checked them out.

    My standard advice:

Stop using assignments. They add an unnecessary level of complexity. Instead, using a shared network or cloud storage (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc) folder, open the INDD file in InCopy, check out any stories you need to edit, check them back in and you're done.
