Can users have different InCopy Releases?

I'm stuck with InCopy 2017 and InDesign 2018 due to the age of my mac.

The author I work with just updated all his Adobe software with the latest.

Can we work with two different releases or will he need to use 2017 as well?

He won't like it when I let him know. Maybe I can get him to come up with 3K for a new mac 🙂
