Question

InCopy Assignments Duplicating with Different Names

We're a team of three editors and one designer working in InDesign/InCopy CC 2022 (all working in same versions).  I create the assignments in InDesign, then go through the correct paths, share them, and now they're randomly duplicating themselves, same prefix, added suffix. My InDesign file crashed a few times: Is this the culprit? Assignments panel asks me to Update All Assignments for no apparent reason: Is this the cuprit? Has anyone else run into this?

Would appreciate any thoughts or experience with multiple iterations.

How are the assignments shared? Local network? Dropbox/OneDrive? Why are you using assignments? Have you tried just exporting the InCopy stories and allowing InCopy users to open INDD files?

The assignments are shared on OneDrive. Is there an alternate to using assignments? Not all editors have InDesign. We're a small, non-profit environmental magazine. Money's tight. Thanks for any suggestions.

A couple of things to note. The most important is make sure that everyone has disable the smart sync feature in OneDrive. All files must be fully synced and available on the device, not downloadable on demand. Also, they should all have added the folder to their OneDrive. This is an extra step that I never understood but it's necessary.

That out of the way, for a small workgroup like this, it's easiest to simply export all of the InCopy content as unassigned. This eliminates the ICMA files. The InCopy users would then open the INDD file directly in InCopy (They do not need InDesign for this), check out any stories they want to work with and go from there.
