InCopy incredibly slow to open short, simple document. WHY DOES THIS SUCK SO BAD?

Have a short document (<20pp), text only and InCopy either takes 5-10minutes to open (over fast network) or hangs at end of opening document. I have to force quit and re-attempt. 

Have tried now for 4 times. How is this software tenable?

any suggestions?
Tried resetting preferences- no luck.
