Question

InCopy Links changing across servers

Good Morning,

We have been testing a new cloud based server, and we are a magazine. What we did is create test files and only work off of those. The test was to see if Incopy Links could be accessed through this server and could the work be done remotely.

We did not throw out the assignments on the test files. This was done deliberately.

What we have found was the copy we made to our test files ALSO came across to our main server - that since we were not working with the original files we did not expect them to change. Yet they did.

We think that it has to do with every version of a link changes, reguardless of where it's at.

Has anyone else had similar experiences, and what did you do to solve any issues?

Thank you in advance.

What does "We did not throw out the assignments on the test files" mean? We'd also need much more info on the "cloud based server" along with versions of InDesign, InCopy and even operating systems and platforms.

In short though, if those files are still linked to the original InDesign project, this behavior makes perfect sense and is exactly why the last step in finishing a project with InDesign/InCopy workflows should be to delete all references to InCopy content.

A few simple things to make sure of is that the cloud-based server has anything like "SmartSync" turned off. Also, that each user has full editing rights turned on. Also, there is usually a desktop-installable version of the cloud-based storage that must be used instead of trying to operate thru the web-browser version.
