Question

Text disappears in InCopy when linked in InDesign (for some team InCopy users, not others)

Hi,

I'm the second person at our organization dealing with a frustrating problem, after recently getting a new MacBook Air (running Monterey 12.5.1) and downloading InCopy 2023 v. 18.0.

For years, editors in our organization have been using InCopy seamlessly with designers creating publication files in InDesign and housing them on Dropbox for easy sharing.

About two months ago, one editor on our team started having an odd problem, though. When opening an indd file using InCopy, text was generally viewable -- until it was linked. Then it disappeared. With so much missing text, the files became unusable to that editor. Strangely, I was using a previous computer at the time and didn't have the same problem. I could access the same files and see and edit all of the linked text.

Fast forward to today and I have the new computer referenced above. Now, I've opened a file using InCopy where I could previously see the text. Now, that it's linked however, the text boxes all look empty. It's page after page of empty text, though I can see photos and some other design elements. Again strangely, another user in our office, who's running InCopy 2021 v18 CAN on her MacBook (Big Sur 11.7) see and presumably edit the linked text.

Until we can get this figured out, InCopy is useless to us and our publication plans are hampered. Hope someone can help! Thanks.

Can you see the text in the story / galley view? Have you tried disabling the GPU Performance?

No, can't see the text in story or galley view. Those views are empty.  And I haven't tried disabling the GPU performance? Is that something I can do in InCopy? I Googled it and saw something about changing the settings in preferences, but I don't see that option in General Preferences. In the Google screenshot, GPU preferences was found below Display Preferences, but here's my screenshot.  Or would the GPU preferences be handled on the InDesign end? Thanks!

Just used InDesign to save a copy with GPU Performance turned off. It didn't solve the problem when viewing the file in InCopy.
