Unable to access file

I am using InCopy20 on a PC. 

When it asks if I want to check out the file, I reply "yes." 
Then I try to type in the file and it says: "Unable to lock the following file." 

This is a shared file, but I know that no one is using it or has it open at the same time. 

Any thoughts on why this may be happening? Thank you!

    Ask your system administrator about your rights in the shared folder. 

    Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner
