Question

Ad Insertion

Hi folks,

this is a pre-sales question really but everything seemed to point me to here... The feature spec for FMS mentions that it can perform "Ad Insertion". So, how? I've searched around but can find precious little reference to it. I've played about with using an XML playlist to load a series of streams from the FMS and that works great, but Ad Insertion kind of implies that the ad becomes indistinguishably part of the content - concatenating them together as far as the end use is concerned? Am I missing something - other than headache tablets after messing with this stuff :)

cheers,

    Hi Jay,

thanks very much for the reply. Are there any pointers anywhere on doing this kind of thing _well_? I'm guessing starting buffering a second stream into a seperate clip before the first one is finished and then bringing the second movie clip to the fore and playing would be one way to achieve this kind of seemlessness?

You're not missing anything, but it can be seamless as far as the user experience goes.

What FMS can do is play video files in sequence without input from the client. Rather than presenting a playlist to the client, the list resides on the FMS server, and FMS feeds the appropriate video files(s) to the client. If the flash client application (the .swf) is well designed, the end user will see a single stream with no breaks or rebuffering.
