Beginner Flash Streaming

Based on what an Adobe vendor has told us, is it true that in order to stream a live broadcast of our church services we must have a server that captures the video at the church and that this server must have both the live encoder as well as the streaming server software installed on it, and that this same machine will push the live broadcast directly to our website?

Basically what we are envisioning is to capture the video live directly to an encoding machine at the church; then have the encoded file pushed to our internet service who has the flash media streaming server installed on a machine at their location; the streaming server will then publish the live broadcast from their internet service location.

Is this possible? And, if so, what is the best way to do this?

example:

Church -> Capture Live Video -> Encoder at Church location -> Internet Service Provider -> Flash Media Server -> Website -> Viewed by the public

You will likely want to capture and encode the broadcast locally as you describe, and can do this with something like the free Flash Media Live Encoder, there are also a number of partner solutions that include the hardware and software, and also companies that help provider services in this area.

Once you have the stream out of Flash Media Live Encoder for instance, it can be directly broadcast to a service provider who hosts Flash Media Server - such as a CDN or a company that specializes in Live broadcasts. Just as an example - UStream, Mogulus, and JustinTV will all allow you to use Flash Media Live Encoder and publish directly to their service.

In some cases you may want a local Flash Media Server to add additional data before the stream is passed to a service provider, but you should not need a Flash Media Server locally if the provider you are using hosts Flash Media Server.
