Question

Cache

I am new to FMIS.  Am working on an Origin/Edge config in a development environment.  As we build up the new hardware for this software, there are caching considerations.  I can see where it states that Edge servers cache - is there an appropriate limit to the size of the caching directory?  I believe the default setting for this is 32 Gig.  We can go as high as 400 Gigs, but don't know if that's prudent.  Any opinions on this?  Also, yes, Edges do take advantage of caching, but I don't see anywhere where it says that Origins DO NOT.  Can someone confirm my belief that Origins simply provide the data to the Edges, however, do not take advantage of any caching?

Thanks - rookie trying to ramp up quickly...

Let me try to answer it one by one:-

    1. I do not see any negative impact of you increasing cache size to 400GB provided enough is left off for other OS related stuff , i mean it should not be case that you have hard disk of 400 or 420 GB and you allocate that much to FMS. So impact if any would be from OS side and not from FMS end. But you need to make sure that you have very high end Edge server machine, like high end NIC because most traffic in this case would be from edge as more data is cached here.

    2. Origin in plain Origin-Edge architecture do not take advantage of disk cache however they do take advantage of in-memory cache (defined by FLVCache settings in fms.ini). However in Origin-Origin case like in dvrcast setup , even Origin can take advantage of disk cache.
