Can a USB mic be used on a Mac?

I've got a USB mic connected to an Apple MacBook (OS 10.5). In the Mac's System Preferences/Sound I've selected the USB mic as my input source. I've also minimized the built-in mic so it's not picking up any sound.

The problem, though, is that my USB mic doesn't show up in the Audio Input dropdown list. I've restarted the FMLE and also the MacBook. Still no go.

Does a USB mic not work with a Mac and FMLE/
