Question

Can't resume video stream after 5 mins inactivity

I originally posted this question on Flash Player forum but I've got a feeling it needs configuring at the server end, so I thought I'd ask you more technical guys.

When viewing streamed videos on a guitar tutorial website, if I pause for 5 minutes or more (to practice) I can't continue playing the video. When I click play it says 'loading' but just stays like that continually, or until the window is refreshed. The site uses real time streaming, not progressive downloading.

So I guess the connections timed out and been dropped after 5 minutes of inactivity, is this right? If so, has it been dropped by the server or by the player? Can it be configured at either end to stop this, or to lengthen the time before it happens?

Thanks, John

Is it using Flash Media Server to stream the videos? Can you clarify more on how are you streaming it I mean what client side player you are using? May be you can point to that website if possible.

Hi Amit, thanks for responding. I don't know what they're using, I had assumed it was FMS, but I don't know.

They use true streaming, to protect their content, not progressive downloading.

I am using Flash Player WIN 10,3,181,26

The website, if I'm allowed to name it, is http://truefire.com/tftv

    Just try two scenarios:

    1. Keeping your browser in focus for 5 minutes after pausing it and then resume.

    2. Minimizing it after pause for 5 minutes and then restore the browser and resume the video.

See if you find any difference in both scenarios. And also tell me what you are currently doing is scenario 1 or 2?
