hi people,

i'm interested in publishing live video on the web. i plan to go into Construction monitoring using PTZ cameras and connecting the live feeds from it to Flash Media Development Server (thats how far my research has gone)... i know its not that 'cut and dry'...so i'm here asking for advice on how i can publish live video on the web using IP cameras.

No problem. The encoder part is (in my opinion) the easier part. Although it requires you to setup a page with the flash embedded into it which calls the server. You'd need one for each camera you have. There are a million different ways to go about this really. How many, and how soon do you plan to do this?

Well first of all you'd need to decide how many people you are going to have watching these posts. That'll dictate the amount of bandwidth you need. You'll want to get a server box setup somewhere that has great bandwidth. Once flash streaming server is setup on that box, you'll want to have the encoder setup at each site with the IP camera attached to it. Those would live encode the stream and send it to the server (where ever it is) and then you'll give out a link to your clients that will call the server to stream whatever video feed it is you wish to show. That's it in a nutshell. How familiar are you with setting all this up?
