Do I need a PBX ?

Hi,

I want to use the FMG as a gateway from PSTN to  FMS  for recording and broadcasting.

I see that I can use the FMG directly with a SIP trunking without a PBX (Asterisk,3CX etc.)

For my usage I don't see any reason to use PBX in the way of the call.

Is there another reason (scalability/reliability)  to use a PBX before the FMG ?

Shlomo.

Shlomo,

Connecting directly with a SIP trunk is an absolutely perfect way.

connecting with PBX might become preferable option when someone wants to call internal (office) extensions as well as external numbers, which is especially true for enterprise setups. In some cases, a PBX may also help in creating controlled development lab environment.

A SIP call uses two kinds of protocols: SIP and RTP (Real Time Protocol). The latter is used for the transfer of the actual voice data which is useful if you are utilizing one or more PBX.
