FMIS 3 - Native bandwidth detection accuracy

I am trying to setup a bandwidth testing app using the native bandwidth detection in Flash Media Interactive Server 3.
I have a cable connection which consistently shows around 4500-4800 mbps (5 mbps rated) on Speakeasy.net's speed test. The FMIS bandwidth detection shows anywhere from 500 kbps - 2100 kbps. I bumped the test time up to 15 seconds (from the default 2 seconds), hoping to get more accurate results, but it still way off.

Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

I too am seeing this large discrepancy between the speeds FMS detects and the speeds reported as the results of a Speakeasy test, or CNET Bandwidth Meter test, etc.

FMS seems to report results that are only 1/3 of what the Speakeasy Tests and the like report.

Does anyone have any insight into this discrepancy between speed test results?

I am also curious how accurate the bandwidth detection is and how it works.  We often see it reporting back 0 as the available bandwidth. From other threads, it seems that Adobe does not publish this information.  Does Adobe  have a recommended way to at least limit/force the bandwidth to be detected at different levels so that I can test that my application works as expected under different speeds?  I have found that using basic http throttling software isn't giving me reliable bandwidth detection from FMS at specific speeds (even though the throttling is well below what I really have).

Thanks for any help in testing methodology for this functionality.
