FMS 3.0.1 FMS Service freezing/failing to restart

I know that we are an entire version behind the current, but this is due to problems with a failed upgrade due to a bug in FMS with streaming our (3TB) collection of .mp4's with the new version... that being said, onto our current trouble...

In our access logs we have found this event which is a good timestamp to our problem:

#Date: 2011-03-22
#Fields: x-category    x-event    date    time    x-pid    c-ip    cs-bytes    sc-bytes    x-sname    sc-stream-bytes    x-file-size    x-file-length    x-status    x-comment

server    server-start    2011-03-22    13:25:51    5752    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -

The event is straight and we do understand what is says... the problem is that this appears to be FMS restarting due to a problem... normally this event signifies that FMS has corrected an issue and restarted the FMSMaster.exe (FMS) service.  The trouble is that once and a while this restart does NOT correct the problem and leaves the FMS service in a frozen/hung state.  Sometimes an additional manual stop/restart of the FMS service corrects the problem and streaming media continues properly. Often times it does not - and in this case it requires an actual server restart.

I work at Northern Arizona University and this is the Flash Media Server responsible for streaming class media to vista course shells.  When this service fails it leaves a very large number of both professors and students unable to do their work.

We are currently looking to find a correlation to something running on the server that could be causing this issue but as of yet this is still a guessing game.

Is anyone having this trouble, or has anyone heard or experienced this trouble before?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is no problem in your FMS. I think you should check your system socket and consult to microsoft if you are using window.

Please update if you get anything from your side.

After working with Adobe support on a prior related issue to upgrading to 3.5, we have decided to upgrade to 4... so far I believe that moving our FMS

to a virtual machine and removing hardware issues from the installation has solved the issues, along with the upgrade which was the first step in solving our Core issues...

we are currently implementing a work around to modify out existing mp4 files that were not compatible with FMS after upgrading past 3.0.

So this is essentially all set now.

    Thanks for the posts.

Can you elaborate in details you exact scenario or use case?

Is it possible to repro it consistently , if yes are steps for repro?

Is anythign else running on FMS machine or its purely meant for FMS.

When FMS stops - does it show any errors in logs - master or core or edge? Is there any crash?
