FMS 4.5 and Apache

I was wondering how often does FMS update the included Apache that comes with the install?  Is the Apache patched along with every FMS patch? Or, is it possible to pull out the included Apache and use our own Apache instance?  If so, what would be needed to be moved over to our own Apache install from the included Apache (modules, configs, etc)....
