FMS as a solution Now?

I've tried this forum before with no ❤️ so far. I hope this time I can get some help from the community...

I'm building out the baseline demo for a startup and I was hoping to use FMS as a solution, but our service will require that live video and DVR'd video (saved for VOD is OK too) be available from IOS devices (iPad, iPhone). I absolutely have to have a solution (however kludged for now) that enables us to deliver live streaming video on these devices.

I've been using FMS on EC2 in both "production" and development environments and have HTTP Dynamic streaming to Strobe, but a flash player this isn't very helpful to me - I'm good with RTMP in these cases.

I need this solution so that I can demo now. My option, for the moment, is too look at other solutions.

Examples, helpful docs, an official Adobe release date on the functionality would be super.

Thanks and cheers,

Choose FMS from the list when you request the pre release program for Tigercat.

Right now FMS can't stream to those devices but there is a beta FMS version in the works called Tigercat that can do it.Correct me if I'm wrong Adobe this is pretty new to me too. You might check WoWza or Red5 to see if they stream to those devices. Be warned though there are articles on the web that say Adobe has sued WOWZA so you may want to consider if they will be around in the same capacity in the future.

Thanks calmchessplayer - are you aware of how you go about getting onto the Tigercat program? I've done some work with Chris Allen at Infrared5 with Red5, they were a great team, but I'm not certain Red5 is gonna do it. My next steps are

    • contact Chris re: Red5
    • see if I can get into the Tigercat program
    • start reading the Wowza docs

I'm trying to complete a 2 week sprint that will give us demo-able functionality. I'm guessing that it'll be on an EC2 Wowza instance. We're a few months from Alpha 1, so that'll give us some time to sort it out. I will need to settle before then as I'll need to be proving the back-end architecture.

    Can anyone else weigh in?
