As we know FMS for Linux has to be installed as root. Is there any danger installing it after su

root?

Thanks.

I do not see any danger except that now FMS has undeterred privileges.

Moving forward, FMS will not use even the root user even if its installed under that account. FMS uses its own non-login account (creates it, if not already made) and uses this for all its purposes, which also has reduced access. This is the default behavior and can be altered as needed.

Hope it helps. Thank you !

I know FMS will not use root to run, but requires root user to create the start-up scripts and install the application.

What I am asking is...the documentation clearly states you must login as ROOT, but I am not logging in as ROOT, I am logging in under my account and then doing a SU ROOT command.

I have not seen any bad effect of doing it this way, but wanted clarification this method to install is OK and the adobe documentation requires changes to reflect root privileges are required and you don't have to log-in as ROOT user.

well I haven't installed FMS on Linux lately but I used to have to run a patch to get it to install correctly on Fedora and Ubuntu Server Edition So my best suggest is do a google search for you linux distro and FMS Patch.........However keep in mind that this may be a security hazard because somebody other than adobe writes the patches Use my advice in Production environment with caution. Ubuntu Server edtion may be your best choice because thing usually install on it with little or no hassle.
