Hi i am currently comparing Windows Media and FMS for video Streaming.

Is there some kind of chart that would give the advantage of FMS over Window Media, and why FMS would be a better choice?

I am also looking for the Hardware specs(server) to run FMS.

I notice the FMS version at 4500$ is there any other fees attached to setting up FMS, like licensing per user, etc?

I am preparing quotes for my Boss for the end of the week.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

G

There is no per user licensing or other fees involved. The FMIS license is $4500 per server, and that's it.

For hardware, the requirements really depend on how much traffic you're anticipating.

As for benefits of FMS over WMS, I suppose the obvious advantage is market penetration of the client side runtimes. For WMS, you'll need either WMP or Sliverlight, neither of which have the market penetration of the Flashplayer. It should be mentioned that the Flashplayer doesn't connect to streaming video on its own, you'll need to develop a player application to suit your purposes (or use one of the plethora of prefabricated players that are available)

Also, if all you need to do is stream video (no client authentication, rights management, etc), you can use the Streaming Edition of FMS, which is $995 per server.
