Help with users and passwords

I am working on a website for a client.  Previously they had a shared server that whenever I connected with FME, it asked for a user and password.  He switched to a dedicated server, and now I can connect without a password.  How can I add the username/password option back to the new dedicated server?

Most probably they would have been using FMLE Authentication Plug-in (aka FLASH MEDIA SERVER AUTHENTICATION ADD-IN).

You can download the same from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/. Just log-in using your User-id/Password. You will see link for downloading FLASH MEDIA SERVER AUTHENTICATION ADD-IN.

Install this add-in where you FMS is installed and create user-id and password using the tool which add-in will provide. Once you created user-id and password - restart the server.

Now whenever you use FMLE it will prompt for user id and password.

The problem is that its a FMS, not a FMIS and it says this doesn't work with a FMS.  I don't understand how the FMS can just allow anyone to connect and stream on it, and thats the way the software was made.  In todays age of the internet and security and adobes server is just wide open.

Is there any other options to secure the streaming, even if by IP with the FMS only.

FMIS is nothing but FMS - its just one kind of edition of FMS. Can you check website people whether they have moved from FMIS to FMSS. If that's the case than can you ask your website guys which version of FMS they are using. If they are using 3.5.x can you ask them to upgrade to 3.5.4 as many security fixes have gone in in this 3.5.4 release including this issue which you are talking about. Earlier with Flash Media Streaming Edition you could not use FMLE Plug-in but now with 3.5.4 you can. So we are listening and we care for your security - its now onus on your website people to upgrade to latest 3.5.4 in order to make it more secure.

Let me know if you need any more help.
