Hosting for Flash Media Server?

Hi,

I am developing an interactive game in Director, that I believe could attract up to 1000 players playing at the same time. It's basically a drawing game, and I'll require using Flash Media Server to exchange drawings between players. Problem is, what do people do for hosting? It seems like all the hosting companies offer like, 10/20 connections, etc...I will need so many more. How do others get around this?

Regards,
Cormac

For that many concurrent users, shared hosting isn't going to be the most cost effective approach (unless you plan to run it only for a few months). I'd buy an FMS license and install on a dedicated server.

Although you have to plunk down a good piece of change at the beginning, the operating cost of running your own server can be much lower that shared hosting. Since your application is all data (no audio/video), your could connect all 1000 users on a single $4500 license (using the 1000 user / 40mbps bandwidth license profile), and run your FMS on a $200 a month server.
