Which version of FMS, or AMS?

AMS 5.0.3 will only work with updated libraries, on a 64bit system.

FMS 4.5 used to work on 32bit machines, but i think the latest 4.5.x build requires libraries which would be out-of-date in Ubuntu 12.04.

I could be wrong, if i have time to test myself i will update with my findings.

I would suggest you set up a virtual machine and try installing FMS 4.5.x trial on it.

Hopefully somebody else knows for sure.
