Question

How do I playback f4v files recorded in FMLE

Hi my name is Göran and I know this is probably the wrong place to post my question but as far as I can see there´s no forum for FMLE here. I´m using the betaversion for mac. I was broadcasting to justin tv last night and decided to try out the record feature i FMLE. It looked like it worked ok and a 125 mb f4v landed on my harddrive. There´s no way I can play it back though or for that matter convert it mov etc etc. What am I doing wrong do I need another special app for playback or converting. Seem a bit strange if this feature is onboard the FMLE but you can´t use it.

Thanks

Göran

    Hi Goran,

The f4v files created by FMLE is playable only via FMS. I am quoting from Adobe's site:

"Adobe Flash Media Server version 3.5 and later and Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 can record content in MPEG-4 (F4V) format using an industry-standard recording technology known as "fragments" or "moof atoms." Some MPEG-4 compatible tools and players do not support moof atoms, and therefore cannot recognize files recorded by Flash Media Server. The F4V Post Processor tool aggregates the information from all the moof atoms into a single moov atom and outputs a new file."

You can download the tool from above location: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/tool_downloads/ (You will require Adobe ID , just create on if you don't have it , I suppose you might already have one)

Once you download and unzip it, you can use it right away. It comes with documentation so you can follow it. In simple terms you just navigate in command promt to folder where your f4vpp.exe is downloaded and run :-  f4vpp -i myvideo.f4v -o myvideo_flat.f4v (where myVideo.f4v is file created by FMLE and myvideo_flat.f4v is name you want to give to you post-processed file)

Now only catch here is as of now f4vpp is available only for Windows and Linux, not yet for Mac. You can use link which Janaki has given to post on FMLE forum to see if they have any plans of releasing such tool for Mac.

Anyways above info would be of some help to you.
