Question

How do you stream with Flash Media Server 3.5 and view streams

I have Flash media server but cannot get it to run despite looking at your other posts. If i stream using FLE and this streams to flash media server the URL is rtmp://localhost/live/livestream. If i open up the flash media page with the 2 windows displayed the right window shows what is streamed to flash media server which is same as URL just mentioned. If i use the videoplayer in the rootinstall what URL should i plcae there to run HTTP. If i give you my IP address which the DNS server address is 192.168.1.254. so what link should i create for users to view stream as nothing seems to work. if i use http://192.168.1.254/live/livestream this does not seem to work on the videoplyer page. Am i doing something incorrect. Please advise what IP address i need to add in...etc.

The fact is that you are publishing using FMLE , it means its streaming content and you should use rtmp uri in videoplayer and not http. So use rtmp://192.168.1.254/live/livestream  in your videoplayer.html and you should get to see the video

Are tou in fact saying use rtmp or http. I deally i want to use http so all users cann view stream. So in laymans terms i have the following.

On Flash Media encode the FMS URL is  rtmp://localhost/live/livestream

The flash media media server start screen shows 2 windows. The left window is for camera which i do not use as using FMLE. So the second window which will show the video 'Live from Server' is only seen when the server name is rtmp://localhost/live  and the streamname is 'livestream' and i do see stream.

Opening up the Flash media admin console there are 2 names under server which are live_definst and vod_definst. The middle pane shows name of stream which is livestream and under stream data it gives client ID CnAQ4B6n and says publishing and another clienbt ID name and says viewing. The performance stab shows the live stream performance that seems to work.

When i open videoplayer, html and put in http://192.168.254.1/ live/livestream it says cannot connect to server. Please assist in laymans terms

Are you trying to subscribe to live stream via http? If that's the case, i am sorry to say its not supported in 3.5 , you have to use rtmp for live streams. I mean just to check whether your http progressive download is working, can you try subscribing to any VOD files from vod folder using http. If that works, your "http" is working for VOD files. What you are trying to work out here is play live stream via http which is not possible in 3.5
