Does http streaming need apache to be set up with AMS?

Can i run this server on a different ip?

I want to only use the server to hold videos and my swf file linking to the video file will go to something like rtmp:\\127.0.0.2\vod\myVid.mp4

Is this how i would set it up?

I have tried so many other ways this just seems to be the only way i might be able to do it..

I don't mind setting up the AMS with my current servers apache however, everytime i do i get errors.. So if you know how to do it then please enlighten me. Ive read through several blogs/tutorials on how to set up ams with an external apache and still no luck so this is my fallback plan.
