Question

I'm brand new with streaming video, and want to make sure I buy the right software

Hello All,

I am a webmaster, reasonably skilled in PHP and MySQL, and I want to add streaming video to my website.

I have seen many cheap, even free software packages that supposedly allow you to stream from a website, but it looks like progressive streaming and none of it look secure.

Today, I found FMSS and it appears to be what I am looking for. Here's what I want to accomplish:

My website will host proprietary videos that will only be available to subscribers.

Subscribers will choose the videos they want to see and then I want them to be streamed from my server.

This is simply for the user to view the videos, not for any sort of interaction.

I may also want to be able to stream live from one webcam.

Will FMSS do this for me? I want to make sure before I buy, and to be honest, I can not afford FMIS for quite a while yet.

If my questions are not clear enough, please let me know so that I may elaborate.

Thank you all in advance for your help and input!

Sincerely,

wordman

    You can do this.

Easiest way to do this now is probably to put the username password into control of your webserver/PHP/SQL whatever and then and only then serve the SWF out to your customers that you want to see your video.  On the FMSS side you'll want to enable SWF Verification to ensure that only users with your SWF can view the content of your choosing.  This ought to be a good way to accomplish what you're looking for and leverage your existing skillset best.

Asa  follow up, FMIS would allow you to sculpt most of this yourself in adaptors and script so you don't need the other pieces.  Offers a one stop shop this way, but given what you know and do I'd say that it's possible to accomplish it in FMSS only.

    Asa,

    Thank you!

I appreciate your answer, it definitely tells me I am looking in the right direction.

Am I correct in assuming if I use some other cheap program that my files will not be secure?

I love this forum, thank you for your advice!

    Sincerely,
