Hi,

I am just wondering that what are the core reasons behind using Flash Media server for implementing IPTV, wheras we have some efficient devices such as following digital tuner boxes

http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/media-center-product-reviews/35289-hdhomerun-dvb-t-review.html

We can get the MPEG-TS stream and send it to this box and it can play the TV for us. Is it not simple? I think that I misunderstanding some thing, why people use FMS for IPTV implementation. There should be some reason.

NOTE: For implementing IPTV, i am using following use case

           Satellite  ---> DVB-S --->  video capture card ---> FMLE ---> FMS

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards

    I briefly went through the link which you specified (did not read it in detail though)

    So what i can say on this topic with respect to comparision is below:

    If you use FMS it becomes Flash based solution - so then you need not bother about installing any client software and it would work for all client OS - Windows/Linux/mac

    Also there are various failover mechanism which are present in FMS which might not be present over here

    Also i am not sure how you will broadcast it to wider audience spread across various geo's

    Above my just my conclusions - they might be right on target - but that's what i felt on my first read. Also i am no way saying FMS is best approach for IPTV/

    Hi,

    Thanks alot for your help. I have one more question.

    If we go for FMS solution then can you please tell me about the exact capture card and dvb-s card to be use.

    I was reading different posts and many people says that Osprey 230 is good card to go. Can you please  confirm this. I am confuse because "nmalhotra" says in post http://forums.adobe.com/message/2234308#2234308

    "But make sure your satelite feed is RAW uncompressed because Osprey 230  takes in RAW input only. It cannot accept MPEG2 or MPEG4 input"

    If we have to give the raw feed to Video capture card then why are we not giving this raw input directly to FME. What is the purpose of video capture card then. I am using following use case

    Satellite  ---> DVB-S --->  video capture card ---> FMLE ---> FMS

    Thanks again for your help.

    Regards

    I am not expert in capture cards or encoding stuff , may be you can post same query on FMLE forum , i think someone there should be able to help you out or may be i can ask someone to reply here itself.
