Installation - Is Apache 2.2 required? Does FMS need a web server?

When installing Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5.2, does Apache 2.2 need to be installed? Does a web server need to be installed for FMS to work?

I would like to only store and stream video content from the FMS server.

Can this be done without major configuration changes? What are the pros and cons of installing a web server like Apache in conjunction with FMS?

Thanks,

Dave

    You don't need to install apache. FMS will work fine without it. The installer gives you an option during the install process... just choose not to install it.

    If you already installed it, you should be able to just uninstall apache, but I've never installed it with FMS, so I'm unsure of whether any configs in fms.ini need to be changed after you remove apache.

    Hey Jay,

    I have installed FMS on an existing Linux web server but did not choose the Apache install (since I had Apache running already and several domains vhosted to that IP). It seems, from what I've been able to glean off the various forums, that FMS has some issues with sharing IP addresses etc. I am not able to access my apps in /opt/adobe/fms/applications even though the server is running and happily displays my apps as being registered and running as well (See attached screenshot of the AdminConsole). But when I try to hit the server from Flash (while on my desktop in Flash),  I get

    Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetConnection.Connect.Failed
        at HelloMyWorld/connectHandler()

    It also doesn't work when running the complied app (I was trying HelloWorld) directly on the server at the domain where I plan to host my apps.

    It would seem that RTMP is not working since I can get to the apps fine. Do I need to add any lines from the FMS httpd.conf to the ones for vhosted domain that I am accessign through? Or - something else. It's pretty frustrating all in all. And I see that many others are having similar problems. It would be nice if Adobe would address this rather murky aspect of installing this cool technology.

    Thanks for any help you can give,

    You shouldn't need to do anything with httpd.conf. Your apache installation is completely separate from FMS

    I'd first check two things:

    1. Is port 1935 blocked at the server by a firewall or proxy

    2. Are there any messages in the logs telling you about an adaptor failing to bind to a port
