Question

Integrating FMS with Solaris servers

Hi,
I hope you excuse my complete lack of knowledge

Currently we have 2 servers running Solaris 10 with PhP,Mysql and apache. We have just found out that to do a lot of stuff we planned to do we need FMS, obviously seeing that there is no support for Solaris has caused the onset of mild panic. I cant find any useful information on how to overcome this

Getting an additonal server that runs a supported OS just for the FMS is an option but we have no idea what would need to be done to then integrate this with the other servers.

Any help would be great!

Cheers

I've heard of people running FMS on just about every flavor of Linux, but with all except Redhat, I've seen reports of problems like the FMS server crashing at random intervals (read that about centOS), or the admin service ceasing to respond. This isn't to say that everyone using an unsupported Os has had problems, but there are certainly enough problem reports to validate your concern.

As far as integration goes, it doesn't really matter where your FMS server is. The only real difference is that remoting, socket, or loadvars connections back to the LAMP server will take a little longer than they would if running FMS locally, and if you have to move flv files out of the FMS app dirs, you'll need to use FTP or another means of moving the files between servers. Other than those issues, it makes little difference if FMS is on your LAMP server or not.

I can't say for sure but on most OS's there is what is known as an emulator that will allow an opposite os libraries to integrate into one's current os. Eg: We were able to run Linux binaires on our FreeBSD machine. I haven't used Solaris since spac 20 days, so I can't say there is a similar solution for you. Good luck thou.
