Question

License key vs. # of adaptors

Hello,

I am unable to add adaptors (FMS 3.0.2)

License key specified does not allow more than 1 adaptors, initialization of some adaptor(s) failed.

I do have an unlimited license and could not find anything in the documentation.

Any idea?

Thanks

Franck

    Hi Franck_21,

The Technical Overview has a feature comparison table that indicates that FMSS supports only 1 core process:

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_TechOverview/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119ed944915-7ff3.html

Based on your feedback, it seems that the table isn't explicit enough. I'll update the table and any other relevant locations in the docs to indicate that FMSS supports only 1 adaptor and 1 core process.

Please accept my apologies and thanks for the feedback.

    Jody

yeah I understand the issue and we do indeed have a streaming server license. What is bugging me is that nowhere (IMHO) has Adobe advertised the adaptor limitations. I'd like to make sure that is indeed the case and not a bug/installation problem

There are two different versions of FMS... Streaming server ($995 license) and Interactive Server ($4500 license). I've never used a streaming server license, but I think fmslove is suggesting that the $995 license only supports a single adaptor.

Ok but I could not find anything in the doc saying that there existed "restricted" license and I have paid the full price!

Probably, you have a Flash Media Streaming Server license which supports only one adaptor, although client connections have no limits.
