Live Streaming and server ressources

I am not sure about the limitations of the flash media server.
Can you please answer the following questions:

- Is it possible to do more than one live stream simultaneously on one FMS installation?

- If yes: how server intensive would that be?

I am thinking about renting a server, installing fms on it and host live events. I would use the flash media encoder software to produce the streams. But as mentioned above, I don't know if uploading more than one live stream is possible and if yes, how many live streams I could have? I cannot afford a high-end server. The server would be only medium sized (Dual Core with about 3GHz).

Sure... you can handle many live streams on a single server

Given that you are operating on a budget, the likelihood is that you'll max out your bandwidth before you max our your system resources.

A 3Ghz dual core machine should support several thousand concurrent streams, but I suspect you'll have a 100Mbps uplink on the server (you usually can't get a 1Gbps uplink unless you're running your own switch, or paying an arm and a leg per MB).

using cable tv connection to take the signal into my computer, using a tv tuner card or video card.
i need to buy a H.264 hardware encoder. i want multiple video streams in my FMS server so that i can serve my clients according to their taste,
i want to know about some functionalities of FMS server.
: can i stream all the channels from the cable to the FMS server which is encoded using H.264
If that is possible how can i select each channels from the FMS server,
also want to buy a descent H.264 encoder and a video card or Tv tuner card to support all these functions Can you suggest one?
