Livepkgr Issue - black video

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. I have scoured the forum and have not found a similiar issue described. This has become quite urgent/serious at the business level for us so any help is greatly appreciated...

First, this issue is very intermittent and we can't consistently reproduce it and we have seen it over the past several months

The symptom is that we end up with no video on the HDS/HLS output from Livepkgr, and the audio continues coming through.  The RTMP stream is fine.

We are using AMS 5.0.

THANKS

    Hi Jared,

Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. I assure you that we will resolve this issue for sure.

Could you please share the below details so that we can do further investigation.

    1. Version of adobe media server and is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

    2. Operating system on which media server is installed.?

    3. May i know the player name, is it a third party player or adobe's player.

    4. Do you see any common error inside the apache error log and in application log of livepkgr.

    5. Kindly provide us the encoder information.

    6. Do you have any set of steps to reproduce this issue.

Kindly revert so that we can start our investigation.

    Best regards,

    Thanks for your reply.

Here is additional information we supplied Adobe directly (our responses in red):

    Problem Description

If I understand the issue correctly, HDS/HLS video would stop while the audio continues through intermittently. However, RTMP streaming works all fine.

MP: I would describe it slightly different. When this occurs, the video is black form the beginning and the audio is consistent. Yes, RTMP streams are fine.

    Questions-

To help isolate the issue, I would request you to answer the following questions:

    1. 1. You have mentioned that the issue is intermittent in nature. Do we have any specific pattern observed as to when the issue occurs?

MP: Unfortunately we have not been able to find a pattern. This is slightly anecdotal but we have noticed that the instances of the issue are clumped together. I.e., we wont see the issue for a month and then see a few instances in a single day.

    1. 2. Did we make any changes in the network or configuration prior to the issue?MP: No
    2. 3. What is the duration of the issue? How do you restore the stream back to normal?

MP: It will stay in this state until the instance of the Livepkgr app is restarted.

    1. 4. Where and how is the stream being published? How is the Encoder connected to the Server and its network layout?

MP: I've attached the FMLE profile which has example URLs we use to connect to the Server.

    1. 5. What are the exact steps to replicate the issue?

MP: We can't consistently replicate this issue but when we do see an instance of it, simply connecting the FMLE to the LivePkgr instance (see example profile).

    AND

To isolate the issue, I would request you to send me the following:

    1. 1. AMS version

    MP: 5.0

    1. 2. Platform on which AMS is installed

    MP: Redhat -- RHEL6.4

    1. 3.  Encoder being used ( Encoder settings)

MP: FMLE. Example FMLE profile attached used during one instance of the issue.

    1. 4. Clients viewing the stream (platform and browser)

MP: Across the board. I.e., we see the issue in all browsers/platforms we have tried.
