Hi there,

our company is planning to use adobe flash server for our videoproducts.
there are some basic quastions, where i did not find an answer in the whitepapers and would be glad to get some helping informations here.

1. bandwidth detection:

is it nessecary to upload a videofile in defines, different bandwitdhes to the server or does AFS work from 1 basicfile and creates the nessecary bandwidth itself?

2. only stream or also download

can i use ASF also for downloading flv-files and use the userrestrictions for that (example: bandwidth and/or concurrent connections per user)

3. creation of preview pictures and metafiles

we will need a feature, that AFS creates on demand previewpictures and a metafile (as txt or xml) and copy that to a special location. is there any kind of feature in it or any idea for a workaround?

Last not least:

Is there anybody able to help us in

a. setting up the server correctly
b. programming a player with some special features
c. writing the nessecary action scripts
d. giving a hand or consulting in the security
e. is also available for future works in that case

would be very glad to find competent answers and help .

many greetings

tom

    1. You need to upload multiple video files encoded at varied bitrates. FMS does not do dynamic recompression.

    2. FMS3 can only stream. FMS 3.5 will have a built in http server which will allow for progressive download

    3. FMS cannot create images or metafiles from video. You would need an alternate solution to that.

On the note of finding help, you might try posting your requirements in the flashmedia jobs forum at flashcomguru.com and on the listserv on the same site . There are a good number of FMS pros who frequent that forum and read in on the list, so it's a good place to go looking for hired muscle.
