Question

Quality and FPS amazingly low.

We are using FMS 2 for our website. We are trying to create a simple browser-based video chat application. We have set everything up and we set the options so that the application is allowed to use the maximum bandwidth available and deliver the highest quality and FPS possible. Despite all these optimizations FPS is like 1 frame per second! We know for sure that there is still unused bandwidth! Any ideas what would be the limiting factors decreasing the quality of live video and audio chat?

I just ran into something where if I had high quality video going out (Camera.setQuality( 0, 100 );) and no audio, I'd get splendid video. However, as soon as I added audio, my video quality plummeted and looked awful. Since I was using the max bandwidth and highest quality, I was perplexed. After much experimenting, I found that just limiting my quality a bit (85 instead of 100) quickly yielded much better results. I think the high quality video and the default quality audio are too much for a stream to handle and so it kicks the video down a flight of stairs. But if you ease back on the quality, it doesn't get upset and it doesn't degrade your video quality. That's my experience, at least.

turbidity is right, that's how it works: Audio takes priority because you can't really drop audio frames without noticing it, whereas you can drop video frames (up to a point) and still have a good experience. you can also make sure that Video.smoothing = false.
